How can we expect those that oppress us to take us seriously
When some of us in our community take the stance to put down our very own
For further acceptance from the same ones who oppress us
No matter what beautiful shade you come in
No matter the texture of your God-given coils that sprout from your head
No matter the features that lay atop your face
We are all one
And the oppressor doesn’t separate us by shade, by hair texture, by feature
To them we all fall under the horrific stereotypes they place us under
Stop falling into their tricks that further divide us and make our foundation weaker
Go against the grain of their backwards thinking
I understand it is because of our oppressors that some of us think this way
As it was instilled in us that beauty lies within a lighter shade
A looser curl
But we will never grow if we are not willing to dismantle this ideology within our community
Every single individual within the black community
Regardless of what they look like
Should be celebrated
Should be lifted up
Why should we feel unwanted both from outsiders of our community
And from within our own homes
It’s unacceptable and should be hastily halted
We stand together
As one
To continue this fight
⌄
I feel as though people are losing the passion we’re supposed to have for our people
The passion to speak up
The passion to protect
The passion to serve our community in any way we can
The passion to love our community
Dare I say
The passion to even truly be a part of the community
We can't say we want change
And let the time pass us by as we watch the world continue to stay the same
Mere words won’t spark the change we want to see in the world
We must ACT
And act NOW
Change won’t come knocking on our doorsteps
Our progression will stay stagnant until our community uproars
The world has shown us time and time again that they won't speak for us
So we must do it ourselves
If we don't increase the volume of our voices
Our mistreatment will continue
Because they'll assume our silence is compliance
You should care
You should be outraged
You should feel urged to revolt
Now don’t misconstrue my words
Words still are important
As that's how I’m expressing my point now
But we can't let it stop at only words because that’s when we trap ourselves in stagnation
Some of the greatest Black Revolutionaries we know did not stop at words
And that's what made them great
Be the change you want to see in the world
Don't wait for the “right” time
Because there will never be a single “right” time
The right time is the present time
The right time is now
Don’t be the one who watches your brothers and sisters getting slain in the streets wishing you could do something
Be the one who saves your people knowing you've done everything you could and more
⌄
Often times
Before even having stepped foot in the court room
Your sentence has already been decided
Without the opportunity to plead your case
Based off your name
Based off your past
Based off your race
Based off assumptions
Based off stereotypes
Based off simply who you are
Something you didn't choose
Something that was completely out of your control
Whatever you say is going in one ear and out the other
As if you're talking to a brick wall
You’re a criminal before you even have a record
Before you even go through the “justice” system
Getting punished for things you've never even considered committing
What type of system is that
Who exactly is the justice being served to?
What type of true justice system judges based on a assumed stereotype
What type of true justice system kills innocent civilians based off something that should be so trivial such as race
What type of true justice system falsely accuses because they want to see our kind off their streets
Ask yourself this
This is no justice system
In this world
Those who believe the justice system is a fair system
Can only be equated to a fool
We must all gain the courage to revolt
Against this injustice system
Who only stands for being guilty until they can find something to further their belief of you being guilty
⌄
I often feel a rage within me that it feels I can't control
A sadness that consumes me
Not because I’m a bad person
Not because I’m mentally ill
Nor do I have no control of my emotions
But because
It hurts me to think
Of how badly the world hates my kind
What did we do
Except be who we are
And try to live life as peacefully as everyone else
We want to live like our lives matter
Because they do
But we’re treated as if we can easily be discarded
I can ask why so many times
I can’t get one single answer
Our lives are put in danger everyday simply by stepping out the house
Based off some cases
Even in our homes
Why do they treat us like ruthless animals
Why do they kill us
Why do they beat us
Why do they hate us
Not only do they do the damage to us themselves
But they create damage within our communities
Colorism
Self hatred
Broken governments in our home countries
What did we as a group do to deserve any of this
Nothing
Nothing
We did nothing
Yet they still hate us

Y.N.
“young nigga”
said to an intelligent young Black male
minding his Black business
who happens to be in all black attire
to the oblivious
the phrase may not seem the biggest problem
but the implications of this phrase
are so deeply rooted in the problems of how society views us
when people refer to a young Black male
trying to figure out how to make a name for Himself in this life
as a “young nigga”
it immediately dehumanizes Him
and removes every trace of His God-given identity
you are minimizing Him to a “thug”
a “hooligan”
a “criminal”
a “threat”
a derogatory title
as simple as that
why is this the first thought that crosses one’s mind
when laying eyes on a young Black male destined for success
see Them as what They are
call Them the titles They deserve
the titles that They are working for
Future doctors
Future lawyers
Future businessmen
Future innovators of the world
THE future that will succeed
stop the divide
white men are not the only ones destined for success
I never understood the american dream
being so sought after for being the closest proximity to whiteness you can get
why is that?
why is success not something that is a free for all
why is it typically only alloted to one race
that’s not what I call a dream
if anything, I would classify that as a nightmare
it’s extremely exclusionary at best
it leaves people of color behind
it leaves Them already thinking there is no future ahead of Them
it leaves Them thinking there is no hope
some feel They have no other choice
but to play into the derogatory titles that those who oppress Us
have continued to label Us with
We need to put an end to that false narrative
the american dream should be a dream that is for all
not a dream made for a specific or “ideal” phenotype
if anything
the american dream to me
means even more success
for Those who are Marginalized
than those who have held privilege in society for years to come
but what more can we expect from a country
who has the audacity to spit in the faces
of Those who have suffered grueling oppression
by celebrating 250 years of independence
on a land that they fiercely stripped independence
from Those who were here first
and then proceeded to call that criminal
a pioneer
but still We will rise
and never show you Our backs
We will always come forth with resilience running through Our veins
again and again and
Again
